Vonfidel Ranch was founded in 2010 the goal of creating sanctuary for equestrians worldwide. Inspired by the rich equestrian traditions of Ocala, Florida, our ranch has thrived by incorporating tropical horsemanship as its core principle. Located on the eastern edge of the famed Punanai outback—highlighted in Christopher Ondaatje's book, The Man-eater of Punanai: A Journey of Discovery to the Jungles of Old Ceylon—our pristine ranch offers a unique blend of adventure and tranquility through our signature riding holidays.
Each year, our dedicated wranglers scout and design distinctive trails and riding holiday programs specifically for our equestrian enthusiasts, ensuring a remarkable experience at our dude ranch. We maintain the highest standards of horsemanship, with a steadfast commitment to ethical riding practices and the well-being of our horses, which are fundamental to our operations.
Our Horses
Our riding herd was initially established with off-the-track thoroughbred horses (OTTB). Over time, we have selectively invested in Marwari and Sindhi horse breeds from northern India, known for their rugged nature, superior genetics, and endurance. This strategic choice has significantly enhanced our riding holidays, making our horses a major attraction for our clients. We prioritize continuous training and development, focusing on shaping their temperaments and attitudes, which is one of our key strengths.
Alfie Ameer
I'm honored to introduce myself as the founder and COO of Vonfidel Ranch—a place where passion, dreams, and determination come together. With a background in engineering, technology management, and military intelligence, I bring a unique skill set to our operations. As a PMI-certified Project Management Professional with expertise in advanced network technologies, I have held senior positions in Fortune 100 companies. I am also an NRA-certified Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor, with experience training law enforcement officers and working with shooting clubs.
The journey to realizing my ranch dream began in Ocala, FL, the horse capital of the world, under the mentorship of Bill, a seasoned cowboy. Bill’s encouragement and guidance shaped my equestrian skills, and he remains a cherished part of my journey. Today, I teach and train horses, riders, and wranglers in ethical riding and "tropical horsemanship"—a term I’ve coined for the art of successful horse-keeping in a tropical country. Alongside my team, I also guide guests on our signature riding holidays through the jungles and hidden trails of the Punanai outback in eastern Sri Lanka.
